Ticketless by UrbanThings at Transport Ticketing Global
Last week, the UrbanThings team exhibited at the Transport Ticketing Global Conference at Old Billingsgate, London.
The ticketing conference brought together almost 1000 attendees for two days of networking, presentations and exhibitions. It’s the largest ticketing and public transport conference in the world, providing a massive opportunity for UrbanThings to meet operators, innovators and industry experts.
Day one saw UrbanThings’ CEO Carl Partridge present on the main stage to a packed audience of delegates. Joining him was Luke Taylor-Sales, Head of Customer Experience from Brighton & Hove Buses. Through our relationship with Go-Ahead Group, UrbanThings and Brighton & Hove Buses will be partnering alongside Ticketer to perform the UK’s first CiBo trial integrated with an ETM.
Carl spoke about how the ticketing industry is now ready to make the move from hardware to software. “Our ambition is to reduce friction in payments for public transport” said Carl. “Each passenger is carrying a bluetooth aware, biometrically secure ticket validator in their pockets. Why not use the technology your passengers already own?” Carl’s sentiments were backed up with strong data from Brighton & Hove Buses. “Since the launch of mobile ticketing, we are selling 70,000 tickets per week through our mobile channel. This is a great endorsement from our customers saying how they want to pay for their travel” said Luke.
Ticketless Ted makes an appearance
Over in the exhibition hall, the UrbanThings team were able to give live demonstrations of the Ticketless app on a giant 27 inch smartphone (which sat alongside the equally giant Ticketless Ted). Many attendees popped over to the UrbanThings stand to view the passenger app, get a full end-to-end demonstration of the Ticketless cloud-based back office, and to also “Spin-to-win” Ticketless Ted by playing our Wheel of Tickets game.
Ticketless Ted will draw a winning name at random later this week, and head off to his new home in due course.
UrbanThings’ UK government-backed product Ticketless, is an innovative mobile-ticketing platform for public transport. It enables operators to lower their costs by removing on-vehicle hardware. The system will ultimately move from a CiBo model to full BiBo (Be-in, Be-out) technology using Bluetooth beacons.
