UrbanThings is working with Go-Ahead Group to bring innovation to the public transport industry and improve the passenger experience, as part of Go-Ahead’s Billion Journey Project accelerator.

The 8-week scaleup programme involves collaboration with senior members of Go-Ahead and explores the role of SMEs in the future of transport. We will explore the changing demands of passengers, suppliers and stakeholders, and how Ticketless can address the needs of passengers and operators alike.

“The Billion Journey Project is the next level of Innovation in the transport sector, linking bus and rail for the first time, with the ability to positively impact one billion passenger journeys,” said Ian McLaren, CFO Govia Thameslink Railway. “This is not only exciting for Go-Ahead Group but represents a truly exciting opportunity for the future of the industry as a whole.”

The programme offers deep immersion into the bus and rail sector and unparalleled access to Go-Ahead leadership, data and infrastructure to help develop proofs of concept and scale solutions across the industry.

“We’re excited to be working with the Go-Ahead Group to prove the huge benefits of Account-Based ticketing and Be-In/Be-Out travel,” said UrbanThings CEO, Carl Partridge. “Tomorrow’s passengers won’t need to tap any cards or phones, they can simply walk on and off vehicles and pay for the transport that they use.”

The Billion Journey Project culminates in a Demo Day in London on 19th September, which will be attended by over 200 guests including leaders from across the Go-Ahead Group and other major transport organisations, the Department of Transport, local authorities, suppliers, investors and the media.
