South Yorkshire TravelMaster App reaches over half a million revenue milestone
TravelMaster, the commercial organisation owned and operated by the region’s transport companies, recorded over half a million revenue via its new App in only six months after the launch of the new TravelMaster transport app.
Last year, TravelMaster worked with transport technology expert UrbanThings to streamline the existing process for digital ticket retail. The companies worked together to create a smart ticketing solution to retail multi-operator tickets using the ITSO smartcard standard, this being the common standard across the operators served by TravelMaster.
In June 2023, UrbanThings and TravelMaster launched the brand new mobile app, combining retailing and loading into a single passenger interface. The app enables passengers in South Yorkshire to register smartcards, purchase tickets and load them onto their TravelMaster smartcards. With everything in the same place, buying travel tickets or updating account details today is simpler and faster via the mobile app. The travel app, free to download, is based on UrbanHub, the existing transport platform developed by UrbanThings and already deployed in the UK, Europe, and North America. Laying a solid foundation for smart ticketing initiatives, the app is already transforming South Yorkshire’s commuting landscape, reaching half a million revenue milestone with usage continuing to grow.
Adam Toone, CEO of UrbanThings, said: “Collaborating with our amazing customers to help them grow patronage is what we strive for. We are excited to continue delivering improvements and innovation to help TravelMaster achieve long-term benefits, and ultimately, continue delighting customers who are encouraged to use public transport more frequently.”
John Henshall, general manager of TravelMaster, added: “The App has been one of the success stories of 2023 for TravelMaster and we look forward to building on this strong start in 2024. The App aligns well with our digital marketing strategy and has created greater convenience for our customers. Trends are showing that customers are not migrating from other digital channels but embracing new technology compared to traditional retail, a very welcome but unexpected outcome to date. Getting customers to form new habits is a tricky endeavour but the simple customer centric App developed by UrbanThings is helping our customers to access our range of multi-modal tickets and develop new purchasing habits.”
