UrbanThings Launches a Brand New Mobile App in Guernsey
UrbanThings and Tower Transit have launched a brand new passenger app as an important part of its effort to improve public transport access across Guernsey.
Guernsey is the second largest island of the Channel Islands and a popular holiday destination. Locals and tourists needed to access a cutting-edge solution for journey planning and live tracking of buses. Tower Transit decided to work with UrbanThings for their experience in creating white-labelled apps and delivering long lasting solutions.
Designed to make journey planning and navigation easy for everyone, the new bus application provides an alternative to the websites currently being used, and will transform the way people travel in Guernsey. After downloading the app, passengers can plan their journey efficiently by seeing bus times, saving their favourite bus stops, tracking live bus positions, as well as links to diversion information.
“We are proud to have worked in partnership with UrbanThings and utilise all their experience to develop a dedicated bus travel app to the people of Guernsey, with the same features and functionality used in larger regions and cities. The new App is released at the perfect time, just over a month ahead of the 2023 Island Games where all the locals and visitors will be able to benefit from this innovative solution and utilise all that the buses.gg public bus network has to offer.”
— Samuel Ribeiro, UK Managing Director at Tower Transit
buses.gg, the new dedicated app in Guernsey, is now available on the App Store and Google Play, completely free of charge, and will enhance passenger experience with access to powerful app features including:
- Live Journey planning
- Map of live bus tracking showing current direction of travel
- Tapping on a bus stop will show live bus arrivals and other route information
- Service information such as current roadworks
- Live occupancy information for buses
The solution will be based upon UrbanHub, the smart transport platform designed for cities and operators that has been deployed to customers across the UK, Europe, and North America. By working with Tower Transit, UrbanThings will continue their mission to make travel simple and create technology solutions to help cities and operators.
“We are excited to launch a fantastic new travel app in Guernsey. Working with Tower Transit, who consider the needs of their passengers above all, has been a great pleasure. This app will be a valuable resource for visitors and residents alike, and UrbanThings is eager to continue its development over the coming year.”
